What Our Students Say

Chris Monteiro '14

As a sophomore at Malden Catholic, I have been taking advantage of all the opportunities that have come to me. As the third quarter is coming to an end, many things have been going on in both my academic and extracurricular life. Since I’m a sophomore, I have taken up the chance to join the National Honor Society. This is an organization which recognizes students for their academic, service, and extracurricular achievements. Since I meet the criteria to join, I will soon be joining all other members at an induction ceremony to become officially part of this organization. I am also a member of the Saint Francis Xavier scholars, which recognizes students for good entrance exam scores on the High School Placement Test. We have done many things already, visiting colleges such as BC, MIT, and Harvard and receiving talks from very distinguished MC alumni. We also do many academic things in this program that gives us valuable insight. For example, we have recently finished reading the book Profiles in Courage by John F. Kennedy, which talks about many brave leaders around the time of the civil war who had gotten the United States through the crisis involving the division of the north and the south. For after school activities, I am an active member in the Malden Catholic robotics club. In robotics, we compete in a competition called Botball in which we design a robot which performs certain tasks the gain the most points. We have recently competed in the regional tournament at the University of Massachusetts Lowell, placing 3rd overall among 22 other robotics teams! Clearly, life at MC can be busy at times, but as long as you put your full amount of effort into it, it will be a great experience that will last you a lifetime.
